Baltimore Ravens Mock Draft 1.0

Welcome to the first Baltimore Ravens mock draft. The NFL Combine is coming up on the football calendar, and that will likely influence some of the selections in the future. This mock does not have compensatory picks.

Round 1, Pick 28: Kenneth Murray, Linebacker, Oklahoma

The Ravens continue the tradition of drafting Oklahoma players with the selection of Murray. Murray is a high-upside pick that can be deployed against the run and the pass. Murray possesses tremendous range and would be a valuable tackler on the edge and the second level. By the beginning of the 2021 season, Murray should be one of the better linebackers in the NFL, and he has the versatility to play all three downs. The Ravens have had a generally weak linebacking corps since the retirement of Ray Lewis, and Murray would be the first step in re-establishing a tradition of strong linebackers.

Round 2, Pick 60: Brandon Aiyuk, Wide Receiver, Arizona State

Aiyuk would almost be a foil to Baltimore’s current star receiver Marquise Brown. Brown is incredibly polished and made an impact from Day 1. Aiyuk can grow, but he has a similar propensity for the big play. Aiyuk can stretch the field on offense and in the return game, and he is magical after the catch. In 2020, Aiyuk will likely be able to produce from the slot and create yards after the catch. Aiyuk has a larger-than-average catch radius, and his elite speed will burn corners in non-press looks. He can struggle to get off the line against the press, but Baltimore can use an array of motions to get Aiyuk moving before the snap.

Round 3, Pick 92: Bradlee Anae, EDGE, Utah

Anae screams hard work and determination. Athletically, Anae plays at a disadvantage with short arms and a lack of leverage, but he is fluid in his releases. He possesses a good burst and a relentless motor against the run and the pass. Anae has good technique to counter his physical inferiority, and he should fit in any number of places that defensive coordinator Don Martindale puts him in. His relentless work ethic can work against him as he occasionally will overcommit and be fooled in the flow of the game. He is not a 2020 starter, but he should find a home in defensive rotations and on special teams at the very least.

Round 4, Pick 119: A.J. Green, Cornerback, Oklahoma State

Green is a great athlete with a nose for the football. He has coverage versatility, but he would likely find success in Baltimore’s man-to-man heavy schemes. Green can be outmanned physically by many wide receivers, and he could be a liability as a tackler in the run game. He has the athleticism to be an immediate contributor on special teams while the first-team corners receive defensive reps. After a few more seasons from Jimmy Smith and Brandon Carr, Green could slide in as an extra corner before transitioning into a starting boundary corner.

Round 4, Pick 124: Trevon Hill, EDGE, Miami

Dismissed in 2018 from Virginia Tech, Hill has character concerns. When Hill is on the field, he makes things happen. He is a good athlete and can work against the run and the pass. As of now, he is better against the run, but he has the tools to develop into a plus-level pass rusher. If Hill puts on some muscle, he should develop into a consistent contributor. Hill could start on special teams in 2020, but he would likely get some reps in third-down blitz packages.

Round 5, Pick 152: Antoine Brooks Jr., Safety, Maryland

Brooks has tremendous versatility. His tackling prowess will shine on special teams early before he sees defensive snaps. He is good in zone coverage and can be passable in man. Athletically, Brooks does not have an elite frame or elite speed, but he plays faster and bigger than he is. He works hard, and he should be able to stick on special teams and in nickel packages in the NFL. Brooks does not have the athleticism to replace Earl Thomas or Chuck Clark as an every-down safety, but he will make his presence felt on special teams. He plays with great energy and should be a good leader in the locker room.

The next Baltimore Ravens mock draft will have compensatory selections.
