Way Too Early 2020 Bounce-Back Candidates

Way Too Early 2020 Bounce-Back Candidates brought to you by Joseph Herff. Every fantasy football season has players that bounce-back after a hard year. Sometimes players don’t perform to their standard or expected level due to situation, injuries, or many other reasons. It is important to highlight which players to watch for before next season begins to see who can bounce back after a rough season.

Baker Mayfield, Quarterback, Cleveland Browns (QB19)

Baker Mayfield struggled last season in an awful system with a bad offensive line. Mayfield was crowned as the Quarterback to draft heading into last season. Mayfield threw for 22 touchdowns and 21 interceptions in Freddie Kitchens’ system. This upcoming season, Mayfield will have Kevin Stefanski running his offense to help him out just as Stefanski helped out Kirk Cousins‘ greatly this season. Expect Mayfield to bounce-back from his sophomore slump and have a much better season.

Other Bounce-Back Quarterbacks:

Joe Mixon, Running Back, Cincinnati Bengals (RB17)

Joe Mixon was one of the top running backs entering the 2019 season. Personally, I faded Mixon due to the situation he was in, but others were let down from his expected top 12 RB performance. Joe Mixon struggled to get going early on, but he still got a lot of touches. Mixon finished with 278 carries and 35 receptions. Near the end of the season, Mixon got a lot more touches and was a lot more effective with those touches. From weeks 10 to 16, Mixon finished as the RB6 averaging 16.4 PPR points per game. He should have an upgraded line next season, and it won’t hurt to potentially have Joe Burrow at the helm either.

Other Bounce-Back Running Backs:

Odell Beckham Jr., Wide Receiver, Cleveland Browns (WR29)

Along with Baker Mayfield, Odell fell from where he was expected to be drafted. Both Baker and Odell were expected to be highly desirable fantasy football stars this upcoming season. Some speculation say Odell played hurt, but others say the system was just bad. Regardless, new Head Coach Kevin Stefanski should recreate this offense and get it going once again making Odell and Mayfield much better than they were this past season. Odell is primed for a bounce-back fantasy football season as long as he can stay healthy.

Other Bounce-Back Wide Receivers:

Vance McDonald, Tight End, Pittsburgh Steelers (TE31)

Vance McDonald was expected to be a top 12 fantasy tight end entering the 2019 season. Early on, the Steelers’ offense completely fell apart. Ben Roethlisberger went down early in the season, James Conner couldn’t stay healthy, and their line had various issues. Mainly because of the quarterback struggles, “Vance Dance” didn’t live up to his hype this past season. With the return of “Big Ben”, McDonald is expected to bounce back after having Mason Rudolph and Devlin Hodges throwing him the ball.

Other Bounce-Back Tight Ends:

  • Eric Ebron, Free Agent (TE25)
  • Evan Engram, New York Giants (TE18)
