Week 2: Tampa Bay Vipers Studs and Duds

Week two is in the books, and once again, the Tampa Bay Vipers who were in the top two betting favorites to win the XFL championship pre-season failed to even show up to the game. There were only a handful of standout performers, so without further ado, let’s get to it.

Studs:

Tarvarus McFadden

McFadden had the Vipers lone touchdown for the game and it came on a 78-yard pick-six.

Andrew Franks

The kicker is about the only way the Vipers have been able to score this year besides their one defensive touchdown. Frank’s field goal from 36 yards out was the only offensive score in this game for Tampa Bay.

WR Reece Horn

Horn has been a consistent player on the Viper offense, and I believe the league would know his name if the Vipers had any kind of quarterback play. Horn ended the game with 51 yards on five receptions with eight targets.

RB Jacques Patrick

Patrick had 73 yards on only 14 carries for an avg of over 5 yards per carry. Patrick may have taken the runningback one spot away from former Michigan Wolverine De’Veon Smith.

Duds:

QB Taylor Cornelius

Cornelius did not deserve to start over Flowers in my and many other fans’ opinion and did little in this game to prove the coaches right. His two interceptions were both costly and killed promising drives for Tampa Bay.

QB Quinton Flowers

Once Flowers got his chance to shine, he blew it. Flowers got passed up as the starter and week ones quarterback three took over for him. Flowers threw a pick-six on one of only a handful of attempts and failed to make more out of his limited opportunities. One thing that I will say for both quarterbacks defense is neither of them had even three seconds of a pocket. However, its a team game, and sometimes if your teammates fail you, you need to pick up the slack.
