Should the XFL Sign Johnny Manziel?

Johnny Manziel’s last NFL snap was 821 days ago with the Cleveland Browns. Since being cut from the NFL Manziel has played for the CFL and the AAF. Should the XFL attempt to sign Johnny Manziel?

Pros

Johnny Manziel is one of the most popular football players in the world. Manziel has 1.8 million followers on Instagram and 2 million followers on Twitter. If the XFL signed Manziel this would bring a huge fan base to the organization. Manziel is only 27 years old and could still make a comeback to the NFL. The money would not be a major problem for Manziel since he only made $70,000 in the AAF and $202,000 in the CFL. He would most likely play in the XFL because quarterbacks are also paid more than every other position. The top quarterbacks in the XFL can make up to $495,000, which is a lot more than the average $2,000 weekly salary. Manziel brings fire and competition to the game of football. He can interest the fans more because of how good of a college athlete he was.

Cons

“I passed on him in San Antonio and I’d pass on him again here,” said Daryl Johnston. Manziel is not the best locker room leader because of his outbursts. Vince McMahon also stated that anyone who has a felony, including DUI, will not be allowed to play in the XFL. Manziel has a DUI which may lead to the major reason why he will not play football in the XFL. Manziel isn’t that good, so if the talent level in the XFL is too high for him he will do terrible. In college, he improvised and used his legs, but it’s hard to do that against grown men who play football professionally.

Conclusion on Johnny Manziel

I think the XFL should take a chance on Manziel because of his popularity and overall he could strive in the league. He most likely will not want a lot of money and could want to show the NFL he can play. Overall I think they should give him one chance, but I would not be surprised if he does not last long.
