Some call him Daniel Vogelbach, some shorten it to Vogelbach and even more call him Vogey. However, the members within the Facebook group “Vogelbach Country” call him Daddy. Daniel “Daddy” Vogelbach has been the refreshingly fun face the gloomiest fan base in all of sports needed. In the darkest of days, his dingers gave us something to look forward to. More importantly his cult following ultimately resulted in the creation of a new online space.
It’s Vogelbach’s Country
When He Was Needed Most
Home Away From Home
I joined Vogelbach Country fairly early after its creation. In no time at all, it was my favorite place to talk about my team. The page retained its focus to the team, while maintaining their own unique draw through its commitment to Vogelbach, which led to its consistent superiority to rival pages. In my eyes, Vogelbach Country became a home for the Mariners fans cast aside by more traditional fan pages. Cast aside for being too sarcastic, any hint of abrasive, or even too real about the state of the franchise. Vogelbach Country has seen feuds with another page and even a copycat attempt of itself through the selection of another player.
More Than a Page
These events added entertainment value to the page beyond the joy of the team or Vogelbach himself, which has made Vogelbach Country more than just a sports page. Last season Vogelbach Country even hosted a Meetup at a Mariners game, bringing its impact officially into the real world. So much so that the games broadcast even made note of the group’s attendance live on air. Despite being a tenured member at the time, I was unable to attend that meetup. But this year, I will be making sure I attend.
