Kyle Wright Will Put It All Together in 2020

Control Is The Key

Wright"s biggest hurdle has been his control. In 15.2 IP at the Major League level, he has posted a 5.54 BB/9. Though this is a small sample size it is worth noting. His fastball command has faltered in limited time with the MLB club, which has made his great off-speed stuff ineffective. Some of this can certainly be attributed to nerves. If he can improve his fastball command in 2020 his off-speed arsenal should cement his spot in Atlanta"s future.

Off-speed Options

Kyle Wright relies on five different pitches to put hitters away and each of them is above average. There will be days when pitchers don"t have a great feel for their off-speed pitch, but that"s OK because Wright has three of them he can utilize. If his slider isn"t there, he"s got a disappearing curveball to tie hitters up with and a changeup he can run in on right-handed hitters. He also throws a sinker to induce ground balls if he needs a double play. Learning to go with what is working will help Wright get through those days when he may not have his best stuff.

Seizing Opportunity

The upcoming season will likely be one that presents opportunities to Kyle Wright. He has the stuff to seize those opportunities and create a tough decision for the Braves" front office. If Kyle Wright can package better control and a lethal secondary arsenal, then he should see much better results in 2020.
