Trent Williams trade talks has been in rumors for the past two seasons. Last season the Washington Redskins put the rumor to rest by blocking trade talks. On March 5th the Washington Redskins reported that Trent was in fact is on the trade block.

In years past the Cincinnati Bengals have always appeared to be thrifty with their offseason spending. Ian Rapoport reported that the Bengals are 6th in spending since 2018, but most of the spending was toward their own free agents. This offseason needs to start a new trend. They need to invest in high quality free agents that will give experience to the position in need. In the case about to be mentioned, the Bengals should start the new business year with a trade.

Ideal Trent Williams trade prediction

The Bengals are in need of many roster changes in the offensive line due to its mediocrity. All last season Williams was on the Bengals’ scope and now that he is actually tradable they should get back to negotiating a deal.

The Bengals have the draft picks a the cap space of 44,867,026. The Bengals are set on taking a offensive lineman or a linebacker in the second round. They should give up the second pick to gain the right to Trent Williams. Williams is due to make 14.5 million dollars on the last year of his contract in 2020. With Trent being a left tackle, Cordy Glenn will likely get traded by the Bengals. Cordy Glenn‘s contract is pure savings if he is cut or traded. The cap savings would be 9.5 million dollars.

Trading for Williams would be a huge upgrade from Cordy Glenn. Both contracts are up after this season so it is imperative to get a solid leader on the offensive line. Trent Williams market value for an extension is 15.3 million dollars a year. He is looking for a three to four year contract and this would put him 3rd highest paid left tackle.
