Jets Find New Center, Connor McGovern

The Jets continue with the carousel of their offensive line. After signing George Fant and re-signing Alex Lewis is somewhat risky transactions, they have finally come out seemingly victorious. After that New York brought in former Denver center Connor McGovern on a three-year, $27-million contract.

McGovern is coming off a terrific season for the Broncos. The 26-year-old started 16 games for the first time in his career. In addition, he also took part in all of Denver’s 1,014 offensive snaps and committed a total of zero penalties. Also a personal first.

Above all, with the Jets looking to replace veteran center Ryan Kalil, McGovern is probably the best outcome of one of New York’s premium searches this offseason.

With some of the details of the deal still pending, he’ll earn an annual total of $9 million. Also, the Jets will be left with approximately $21 million more to spend in the upcoming days if that’s his 2020 salary.

In the first two days of the league year, they’ve made sure to fill in the holes in the pocket. On the one hand, the Jets are getting one of the best interior linemen in the NFL. On the other hand, the deal is a very comfortable one for the team considering the impact a good center can have.

He might have felt better had he spent on a tackle as well. Nonetheless, Joe Douglas has provided an adequate answer to one of the looming questions. In short, provided reliable protection, Sam Darnold can be a franchise quarterback and lead the Jets to highs in the AFC East.

Next up on the agenda is supplying him with targets As per reports, the Jets missed out on Phillip Dorsett on Monday. Indeed, their main focus right now should be bringing back Robby Anderson. Furthermore, Douglas should consider the cornerback as another issue of importance.
