The Dallas Cowboys selected wide receiver CeeDee Lamb with the 17th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The wide receiver is one of the top receivers in the draft this year. When he was drafted, the former Sooner wanted to wear the number 10 because of his favorite player DeAndre Hopkins.
CeeDee Lamb Reveals His Jersey Number
On his social media, he reveals that he is going to wear the iconic number 88. The reason for the number change is because of the Owner and General Manager Jerry Jones who had a friend pass away in December. He wore 88 at the University of Arkansas when they won the National Championship back in the ’60s.
Number 88 has been worn by two standout Super Bowl Cowboys and a Pro Bowler. First by Drew Pearson, who should be in the Hall of Fame, and Michael Irvin, who is in the Hall of Fame. The most recent player to wear 88 was Oklahoma State wide receiver, Dez Bryant. He played for the Cowboys from 2010-2017.
Having CeeDee Lamb wear number 88 means he is going to be a standout player for the Cowboys. They hope in his first season he will be the number one receiver heading into his rookie year. Looking at his numbers coming out of college, that theory is very possible.
Hopefully, not only Cowboys’ fans but all NFL fans will get to see this talented receiver this September.
