The Miami Dolphins have signed rookie safety Brandon Jones, who was selected with the 70th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Dolphins Sign Rookie Safety Brandon Jones
Brandon Jones played four seasons in Texas, where he played almost every game for the team. In his senior season, he racked up 86 tackles, two interceptions and four passes defended. The Dolphins lack a star safety, which is a position Jones will attempt to fill. Jones dropped to the third round of the NFL Draft because there were so many good safeties in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Currently, starting at safety for the Dolphins have Bobby McCain and Eric Rowe. Both of these players can play cornerback number three for the team as well. McCain and Rowe are both decent safeties, but not elite. The secondary overall for the Dolphins is becoming better and better each year. With the Dolphins adding Byron Jones to the secondary, this secondary could become a top-three secondary in the NFL. Overall, Jones will add some good depth to the safety position and potentially become a starter for the team.
