The season opener is great to foresee, especially when it’s been hard to see it happen. As of now, the NCAA will be going forward with the season. There are some exceptions for the states that are still at the peak of the Covid19 pandemic. Schools in California and New York could always be on home restrictions. There have been thoughts of changing the season opener in case California can’t participate at the start of the season.
Season opener: Alabama vs TCU possibility
Season opener could change due to Covid19
On September 5th USC is scheduled to host Alabama. At the same time, TCU is scheduled to host California. With a possible stay at home restriction still in effect in California, these to games would be canceled.
Alabama has had talks with TCU in case USC has to be replaced on the Week 1 schedule for the upcoming season according to @finebaum.
TCU is scheduled to play Cal on Sept. 5, the same date as Alabama vs. USC is scheduled in Arlington.

Alabama Athletic Director Greg Byrne has considered the thought of playing TCU in AT&T Stadium. He has made it clear that Nick Saban’s football team is going to look forward to playing USC, but a backup plan might need to be in place for both Alabama and TCU should they have to cancel the original games.
Opportunity knocks
TCU would love to showcase their season with a top-five team right off the bat. They get to showcase arguably the best five star running back in the country Zachary Evans. This matchup would show the nation how robust the program is on a primetime scale.

The TCU Horned Frogs have a series edge on Alabama 3-2. Granted, the last time these two teams played was back in 1976. Alabama has won two games in a row, and the winner always wins big in this series. Neither coach was coaching last time these two teams played, so it would be interesting to see what would happen in this matchup now.
