How Does The Addition of Galin Smith Help Maryland?

Size

Galin Smith will be able to rebound the ball which is a much needed ability the Terps will need to have if they want any shot if they want to make the NCAA tournament. He will also contribute on the interior on both the offensive and defensive side. Lastly, his size will be another huge factor for Terps and in the tough confrence of the Big 10. Smith’s post play will benefit him also. He has the ability to get out on the break which most forwards do not posses. All of these amazing traits will help the team and himself.

His Role

Like I mentioned before, Smith is not a stat stuffing machine. With that being said, he could be an extremely effective role player of sixth man. He will be able to be a spark-plug off of the bench.

He lacks game time expiernce,which is why I do not belive he will be starter for this season. Smith has the tools to be a mentor to the other players on the team. For example, he could help mentor Chol Marial. Marial has a ton of potential, but he has not really shown his full version of himself in his first season. Smith could show Marial how to treat his body after a tough practice or game, ways to become a more dominate player, and how to prepare for a game. Overall, I think Galin Smith was a terrific pickup by Coach Turgeon .

A Chance To Defend Their Big 10 Title

I am not saying that the addition of Gallin is going to make a Maryland a contender for the Big 10 title, but I do strongly believe that this signing could improve their chances to become one of the top teams in the Big 10. Adding more size, will help Maryland become one of the best teams in the Big 10 in the 2020-21 season. Maryland already has a fantastic group of players coming back. Smith could be that one piece Maryland needed to get.

With this addtion, I believe Maryland has the potential to dominate the Big 10. The talent Smith has will make Maryland a team to watch out for in the preaseason and in the regular season. Coach Turgeon is a fantastic recruiter, and with this signing it shows why he is one of the best recruiters in the college game. Maryland has some great, exciting talent that will be able to benefit of off Galin Smith.
