UFC Vegas Recap and Future Predictions

The UFC is back in Las Vegas but not under the familiar lights of the T-Mobile Arena or the MGM Grand Garden Arena. In fact, UFC Vegas was held at the UFC Apex Center with the sight of no audience is becoming more common. The audience or not this card was a fantastic card from beginning to end. Now let’s get into the fights.

Results

  • Mackenzie Dern defeated Hannah Cifers via submission
  • Roosevelt Roberts defeated Brok Weaver via submission
  • Billy Quarantillo defeated Spike Carlyle via Unanimous Decision
  • Augusto Sakai defeated Blagoy Ivanov via Split Decision
  • Gilbert Burns defeated Tyron Woodley via Unanimous Decision

The main card kicked off with a strawweight bout between Mackenzie Dern and Hannah Cifers. Cifers came out of her corner being the aggressor, however, It is unwise to count Dern out. The multiple-time BJJ champion turned a scramble into a kneebar midway through the 1st to win the bout. So what’s next for the straw-weights?

  • Mackenzie Dern
    • Marina Rodriguez
  • Hannah Cifers
    • Miranda Granger

Roosevelt Roberts pushes pace to submit Brok Weaver

This catchweight bout (Weaver missed weight) was predicted to be a brawl. Unexpectedly, it did not disappoint. Both Roosevelt and Weaver had bad blood between them and they both looked to finish each other. From the beginning of the round, Weaver blitzed Roosevelt with a takedown and then a scramble. These few seconds already foretold the fight, Roosevelt dictated the pace of the fight almost submitting Weaver within the first. However, Roosevelt found his opportunity and submitted Weaver in the second via Rear Naked Choke. In turn, Roosevelt snapped Weaver’s 8 win streak and extended his to 2. What’s next for the lightweights?

  • Roosevelt Roberts
    • Matt Frevola
  • Brok Weaver
    • Steve Garcia

This fight was one of my personal favorites of tonight’s main card. Both Billy Quarantillo and Spike Carlyle left literally nothing behind. Spike Carlyle looked to finish the fight within the first. That, however, was his downfall. Carlyle gassed out early and Quarantillo controlled the fight win via Unanimous Decision with the judges scoring the bout 29–28, 29–28, 29–28. This extended Quarantillo’s win streak to 7 and ending Carlyle’s streak of 5. What’s next for the fighters?

  • Billy Quarantillo
    • Chas Skelly
  • Spike Carlyle
    • Charles Rosa

Augusto Sakai continues his tear through the UFC Heavyweight division. This time the Brazilian faced off against Blagoy Ivanov. The first round was all Ivanov, the Bulgarian looked to push the pace as Sakai was still feeling out Ivanov. Sakai turned the tables in the 2nd and 3rd round by ramping up his offense to outpoint the former PFL champion Ivanov. This win for Sakai increases his win-streak to 6 while increasing Blagoy’s losing skid to 2. What’s next for the heavyweights?

  • Augusto Sakai
    • Alistair Overeem
  • Blagoy Ivanov
    • Fabricio Werdum

Gilbert Burns put on a clinic against the returning champ Tyron Woodley. From bell to bell Burns showed a dominant presence over Woodley. Burns was stronger on the feet, on the ground, and in the clinch to solidify him as one of the top title challengers. What’s next for the welterweights?

  • Gilbert Burns
    • Kamaru Usman/Leon Edwards
  • Tyron Woodley
    • Colby Covington
