Analyzing Kennedy Chandler Top Schools

Kennedy Chandler is the best point guard in the class of 2021. Chandler is 6’1 guard who is from Memphis, Tennessee. He recently announced that he was transferring from Briarcrest Christian in Memphis to Sunrise Christian in Kansas. Chandler is very athletic for his size and is very good passer. On April 30th, He announced he is down to five schools which included Memphis, Kentucky, Tennessee, Duke, and North Carolina. Will Chandler stay home and commit to Memphis? Will he stay in the state and commit to the Tennessee? Or will he join one of the Blue bloods like Kentucky, Duke, or North Carolina? Lets break it down.

Memphis Tigers

Staying at home could be a big factor for Kennedy Chandler. He has stated multiple times that he grew up watching Memphis at young age. Playing for a coach like Penny Hardaway who has NBA experience could also be a big option for Chandler as well. He took an unofficial visit to Memphis on October 3rd, for their Memphis Madness event. Do I think he stays home and plays for Memphis? As of right now, I do not see Chandler committing to the Tigers. With Mike Miller stepping down as an assistant coach, this is a possible factor that should not be overlooked. It could be hard to turn down a chance to play at home but as of right now I see Chandler in the cards for Memphis.

Kentucky Wildcats

Kennedy Chandler has taken two unofficial visits to Kentucky. Head coach John Calipari has also visited him multiple times in his home in Memphis. Chandler has stated he used to watch Coach Calipari when he was coaching at Memphis. Chandler is a big target for the Wildcats. With Kentucky possibly losing both guards Davion Mintz and Devin Askew, the point guard position becomes a major need to for Kentucky. Could Chandler become the next great guard at Kentucky? As of today I believe Kentucky is one of the top three teams to land Kennedy Chandler’s commitment. I would not call Kentucky the leader but they should be hear until the end of Chandler’s recruitment.

Tennessee Volunteers

Tennessee is in a excellent spot for Kennedy Chandler. He took an official visit to the school on October 26th, 2019. Tennessee could use another guard with Jaden Springer possibly heading to the NBA after his lone season with the Volunteers. Rick Barnes has shown he can recruit at high level and do not be shocked here if Chandler commits to Tennessee. I believe Tennessee is the leader for Chandler if his recruitment ended today. Rick Barnes and his staff have put them self in a great position to land Kennedy Chandler.

Duke Blue Devils

Many people believe that Duke is the leader for Kennedy Chandler. Kennedy once said in a radio interview that Duke “has always been like a dream school.” Duke could potentially lose both guards Jordan Goldwire and Jeremy Roach next season, so the point guard position could be a need for the Blue Devils. I believe that Duke a major contender to land Chandler’s commitment. Playing for a coach like Coach K could be a major factor for Kennedy Chandler. I would not call them the leader as I do believe Tennessee could be tough to beat but Duke has a very good shot in this recruitment.

North Carolina Tar Heels

North Carolina has had some very good guards over the years. Players like Marcus Paige, Joel Berry II, and Coby White have all been very successful at North Carolina. North Carolina could lose five star guard Caleb Love to the NBA draft next season so landing a player like Kennedy Chandler would be HUGE for Roy Williams and his staff. Right now, I do not see Kennedy committing to North Carolina. As much as North Carolina staff would like to have Kennedy Chandler, I believe that beating out Tennessee, Duke, and Kentucky could be too much for the Tar Heels.

Final Thoughts

In the end, I believe Kennedy Chandler’s recruitment will come down to Tennessee, Duke, and Kentucky. He has been in talks of potentially teaming up with fellow five star Paolo Banchero. They both share Tennessee, Duke, and Kentucky on their lists. As of today, I believe that Tennessee is the leader for Kennedy Chandler with Duke and Kentucky right behind them. It will be very interesting to see how this recruitment plays out.
