Reality Of Boston Bruins Winning The 2020 Season

The 2020 NHL season is about to resume. Rinks are slowly reopening, with players working their way back. It’s been a long, frustrating wait for hockey fans. The current platform consists of 24 teams out of the 31 in the playoffs. Gary Bettman calls it a round-robin. This means that the Boston Bruins will face either Philadelphia, Tampa Bay, or Washington. The last time these two met was in 2012. Boston’s best bet would be the Flyers. History shows that B’s struggle against Washington and Tampa. However, the team has broken its streak of consecutive losses to the Capitals this past year.

Goaltending

The Bruins have the best goaltending tandem in the NHL. Tuukka Rask is having a stellar season, Jaroslav Halak is also having one of his best seasons, and Rask played in every playoff game last season.

Before the pandemic, the Bruins showed no signs of slowing down. With a healthy defense in front of Rask, the Bruins should have a successful run. Of the four possible teams, Andrei Vasilevsky of Tampa is the one goalie who could give Rask and the Bruins a serious run. Other than Vasilevsky, the Bruins stand just as good of a chance as any.

Balanced Scoring

Like every season, the Boston Bruins have the best first line in the NHL. But as fans know, opposing teams have shut down the first line in the postseason. This presents a problem for the Bruins. Should Head Coach Bruce Cassidy break up the line if they are not clicking? Only time will tell.

During the season, the team acquired Ondrej Kase from Anaheim. Also, Nick Ritchie was picked up to add muscle to the fourth line. If David Krejci, Jake DeBrusk, and Ondrej Kase can produce, then the pressure will be off the first line.

A key player to watch is winger Jake DeBrusk. Before the shutdown DeBrusk was coming into his own with 19 goals and 16 assists. DeBrusk adds a spark to the second line and could be the c maker for the Bruins.

Bruins Playing Better In Post Season

Despite losing in seven games to St. Louis last season, the team has improved in postseason. Tuukka Rask is more confident and polished. If they were to meet the Capitols, Rask is far better than Braden Holtby. Jaroslav Halak is better than llya Samsonov. Scoring wise the teams are about even. John Carlson and Nicklas Backstrom are better than anyone on the Bruins defense.

A dark horse team is the Flyers. Before the shutdown, the Flyers were 9-1 in their last 10 games. Goalie Carter Hart is one of the best young goalies in the league. Veteran Claude Giroux provides leadership. In 2010 the Flyers were down 3-0 and rallied back to shock the Bruins in seven games.

Looking Ahead

With the playoffs weeks away, Boston Bruins fans should feel fairly confident. The Bruins are playoff _tested. Tuukka Rask is a gamer. overall, I would say the Bruin’s chances are just as good as anyone. Last year in the Cup finals injuries played a vital role in the club’s chances. This year with everyone rested it should be a very exciting postseason.
