We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.

Bubble Trouble
The last time the NBA did not crown a champion was in 1945. This was due to WW2. This was a very different situation compared to ‘Trouble in the Bubble.’ The 2019-2020 NBA Season is in risk and is facing adversity.
First Issue
A number of NBA Players, led by Kyrie Irving, are looking to boycott the rest of the NBA season and playoffs. This has caused a lot of troubling questions if the NBA should resume. Kyrie also was pleading with his Brooklyn Nets teammates to not play the rest of the season. This was a week after being turned down from being allowed in the ‘bubble’ in Orlando (due to being an inactive player). Kyrie Irving and Dwight Howard came out with their original statements alluding to playing the rest of the season would just be a distraction from the current social justice movement.
Many players and sports analysts have responded to Kyrie’s comments. They alluded to saying that the money they would gain, the TV face time they would have and having no restrictions to continue the momentum of the social justice movement is far more impactful. This is all compared to if the NBA Players decided not to play the rest of the season.
At the end of the day, money talks. If the NBA players decide not to play and the season doesn’t resume, this will give the NBA Owners all the leverage going forward with future contracts and certainly a hard cap will be implemented. Simply, the players would lose out on lots of money. Money that can be put back into their communities and organizations they support.
Second Issue
The next trouble in the bubble issue is NBA players safety and quality of life. You might hear “quality of life” and think they are multi-millionaires, life can’t be that hard. You have to think of their family life, a lot of the players are married and have families. A lot of players are taking care of loved ones. Some players are expecting. They have family members that are sick.
The strict rules of the NBA Bubble will help prevent a COVID-19 breakout, but it will be tough on players and their families. There will be no visitors and it can be difficult being away from family, especially during a trying time.
There are lots of people in many vocations that make a lot of money outside of sports. Imagine being traded from the city you have put your roots in. It would be life altering and can be very difficult. These are the feelings of some of the players around the league.
At the end of the day, if the players choose not to play, they will lose out on a lot of money and leverage going forward. The way the NBA has set up the “Bubble” Dr. Fauci who is a specialist, has declared they are set up for success to complete the NBA season and playoffs. The NBA players have until June 24th, to declare if they are going to be playing or sitting out.
The Raptors Bubble
The Toronto Raptors are the only team traveling to Florida for training camp during phase one. The Raptors are gearing up for a long playoff run and here are some reasons why they are in a position to win another championship trophy.
The Toronto Raptors Rank:
- 9th in FG%
- 6th in 3PT%
- 2nd in DEF. RATING
- 2nd in STL PER GAME
- 2nd in PTS OFF TOs
- 5th in OFF. RATING
The Raptors have done all this with many injuries throughout the season. A healthy and rested line up will hold a great advantage for the Raptors. They are also #1 in the league in OPPONENTS PPG: 106.5, which will be trouble in the bubble.
The Raptors Way
The Raptors organization have led the way in making change. There are major crisis’ going on and they have been in full support of many struggling communities. The love the players have for the city of Toronto and for Canada is inspirational. They believe they are being viewed as a second rate team around the league and look to prove the doubters wrong. With TEAM being the most important factor on both sides of the basketball that has become the RAPTORS WAY. The RAPTORS WAY is also being demonstrated on and off the work sharing the values of what a TEAM can ACHIEVE!
