Monday, July 13th marked the beginning of Phase 3 in the NHL’s return to play plan. That means official training camps opened across the league, including in Nashville. The Predators are preparing for their Stanley Cup Playoff Qualifier against the Arizona Coyotes, which is slated to begin on August 2nd.
Training camp allows expanded rosters of 30-plus players including unlimited goaltenders. Phase 4 will allow 31 of those players to travel with the team to Edmonton and be available to play games in the playoffs.
Training Camp Roster
The Predator’s roster for training camp is as follows:
Forwards: Viktor Arvidsson, Colin Blackwell, Nick Bonino, Daniel Carr, Matt Duchene, Filip Forsberg, Mikael Granlund, Rocco Grimaldi, Calle Jarnkrok, Ryan Johansen, Michael McCarron, Rem Pitlick, Colton Sissons, Craig Smith, Eeli Tolvanen, Philip Tomasino, Yakov Trenin, Kyle Turris, and Austin Watson
Defensemen: Alexandre Carrier, Jeremy Davies, Mattias Ekholm, Ryan Ellis, Dante Fabbro, Dan Hamhuis, Ben Harpur, Korbinian Holzer, Roman Josi, Steven Santini, Jarred Tinordi, and Yannick Weber
Goalies: Troy Grosenick, Connor Ingram, Pekka Rinne, and Juuse Saros
After training camp ends, the roster will be trimmed to 31 players in total. The team will then leave for Edmonton to begin play in Phase 4. Nashville, like most teams, will likely bring 28 skaters and three goalies to their hub city.
Schedule
The Predator’s qualifying round series against Arizona is a best of five and begins on August 2nd. Game two will take place on August 4th and game three on August 5th. If necessary, games four and five will take place on August 7th and August 9th respectively.
Start times and television information have not yet been officially released.
Hockey is Back
After so much time away, the return of NHL hockey is a more than welcome sight. It’s great to see full teams back on the ice for the first time since mid-March. The Predators are looking to put a fairly disappointing regular season behind them. A deep playoff run would certainly do the trick.
First, the Predators need to worry about getting past Arizona. The Coyotes are certainly not an easy matchup. They are one of the best defensive teams in the NHL and generally keep games very close. The Predators certainly have their work cut out for them. Nonetheless, it’s great to finally have hockey back.
