Spurs’ Trey Lyles Will Miss Season Restart

It was announced yesterday that Forward Trey Lyles would be sidelined for the rest of the season due to an Appendectomy surgery. This news was most likely anticipated by the Spurs staff and coaches. For the fans, however, this seems like another big blow to the Spurs playoff chances following LaMarcus Aldridge’s injury.

Before the season was halted, Trey Lyles was on his way to reviving his career in San Antonio. His three-point shot, in particular, was outstanding. As Lyles almost made 40 percent of all his attempts beyond the arc. His shot-making ability, as well as his extra playmaking ability, will be dearly missed on a Spurs team that’s already without star LaMarcus Aldridge.

With the injury to Lyles, it will be interesting to see which Spur will take up his starting forward spot. On a playoff standpoint, this might very well be the final blow to the 22-year streak. However, from a future standpoint, this Orlando reboot is as fascinating as it can be. With multiple injuries, we will finally see significant time devoted to the younger guys that we have rarely seen. Whether Pop decides to rely more heavily on Metu, Eubanks, or Samanic, they will all be given a chance. And for Metu and Eubanks, these eight games might make or break their Spurs career. No matter how theses games end up, it will nevertheless be quite an exciting ride at Disneyland.
