BREAKING: Steve Nash to Become Nets’ Head Coach

Coming off an injury-riddled season followed by a 1^st round sweep, the Brooklyn Nets fired head coach Kenny Atkins. There had been muffled rumors of tension between the head coach and new stars of the team throughout the season.

After a brief coaching search, including candidates from other coaching staffs around the league like the Clippers, Tye Lue, the Nets have suddenly and seemingly found their man. Woj reported this morning that Nash would sign a four-year contract to become Brooklyn’s newest head coach.

He will be accompanied by current assistant, Jacque Vaughn, who will now become the highest compensated assistant coach, per sources.

Nets management has reportedly been aggressively recruiting Nash for the position, according to Woj. The HOF guard had previously avoided any opportunities for head coaching gigs, until now.

Nash’s leadership on the court cannot be questioned, but his coaching resume is non-existent. He averaged 8.5 APG over his 18-year career, including 9.4 APG during his 10 years with the Phoenix Suns.

He also served as a consultant to the Golden State Warriors during Kevin Durant’s time with the team. Clearly, the two built a positive relationship. Now Nash has the chance to lead Durant and one of the league’s most exciting guards in Kyrie Irving.
