Royals Sign Mike Minor to Multi-Year Deal

The Kansas City Royals are signing left-handed pitcher Mike Minor to a multi-year deal. Minor is coming off a long 2020 campaign where he went 1-6 and ended up with an ERA of 5.56. Kansas City will be bringing in the lefty on a two-year deal and can use him in many different ways. Mike Minor, a native of Tennessee, was on the Royals‘ roster back in 2017, however, Minor was never used as a starting pitcher and had a short stint as their closer.

Since then, Mike Minor has jumped around from the Rangers in 2018 and 2019. During those two years, Minor went 26-18 and pitched in over 350 innings during those two seasons. The biggest takeaway was the 2019 season for Minor when he went 14-10, with an ERA of 3.59. He also had exactly 200 strikeouts during the 2019 season.

Despite his success during the 2019 season, Mike Minor must forget about the shortened 2020 regular season.

Where Will Mike Minor Fit in Kansas City?

Throughout his career, Mike Minor has played different roles. He has pitched in the starting rotation, as well as being a long-relief pitcher, and a closer. During the 2017 season with Kansas City, Mike Minor recorded the only six saves in his career.

With two left-handed pitchers in Danny Duffy and Kris Bubic projected to be in the rotation, it has not been confirmed that the Royals will add Mike Minor to the list and roll with three lefties in the starting rotation.

The Royals do not have many lefties to use out of the bullpen. Currently, the only lefties they could use out of the bullpen are Randy Rosario, Richard Lovelady, and Foster Griffin, however, none of these guys have had much MLB experience so bringing in a veteran like Mike Minor to work out of the pen could do wonders for a young rotation in Kansas City.
