Seven-time all-star Anthony Davis has agreed to a 5-year $190 million maximum contract to extend his stay with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The deal includes an early termination option, prior to the fifth year of his contract, the 2024/2025 season. Anthony Davis, a free agent is expected to finalize the deal by Thursday, 3rd December, just eight days shy of the Lakers" first preseason game, which will be against fellow rivals, the Los Angeles Clippers.
The 27-year old star was integral to the Lakers championship run this past season, forming a monster duo with LeBron James. Davis’s new deal comes in the wake of LeBron James committing his future, with purple and gold, as the 35-year old agrees to a two-year extension yesterday afternoon.
Davis averaged 26.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game. He shot 50% from the floor and 33% beyond the arc and an overall career-best of 84.6% from the free-throw line.
Lakers general manager, Rob Pelinka touched on the value of Anthony Davis and his ambitions for the organization. Pelinka proclaimed how he aspires to build a roster that will compete for not just one or two windows. "We want to stay competitive for the long term and make decisions that allow us to do just that and not just shoot all of our bullets to try and defend for one year. We want to be in the position of being a sustainable contender."
Before serving in L.A, David endured a seven-year tenure with the New Orleans Pelicans. During his time with the Pelicans, Davis had been selected in six All-Star games and had made two trips to the postseason.
His post-season exhibition performances continued for the purple and gold as he elevated his level of performance. Averaging 27.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.4 blocks, and 1.2 steals. Continuing a tradition of high caliber big men performances for the Lakers.

Anthony Davis will soon undergo pre-season with the Lakers as they begin preparations for the upcoming 2020/2021 season. The NBA season will commence on the 22nd December, with the Lakers squaring off against cross-city foes, the LA Clippers.
