Antonio Caruso: These Guys Are Not Real Fighters, You’ve Got to Earn Your Way to Be Up Here

On the Overtime Heroics podcast/interview, Antonio Caruso weighs in on the recent trends in combat sports, particularly the trending knock out of Youtuber Jake Paul over Former NBA player Nate Robinson.

QUESTION: Recently we saw Nate Robinson vs Jake Paul fight. Although their disclosed purse was only $600, we know that they’ll get more. What do you feel about these YouTubers, basketball players making more money than real fighters?

Antonio Caruso responded, "Look, at the end of the day man, I can’t hate the guys for being smart enough to expose a market, who’s exposing a market, and he’s making a lot of money out of it so good luck to him and good luck to everyone involved in that."

"Even I’m a huge fan of Mike Tyson and Roy Jones but you know, unfortunately, these aren’t the real fights…these aren’t the ones that we should be putting our money behind. Support, I don’t want to be a hater. You know, please if you’re interested watch it and support these all the cards."

"Understand also, please put your money in the real cards like ONE Championship, UFC, Bellator. Because if we don’t support the next generation, we’re not supporting these brands, we’re going to end up in entertainment like a sport where we’re going to have CM Punk back"

Antonio Caruso added that "Jake Paul is a more known fighter than I am, and I’m a professional doing this my whole life and people wouldn’t even know who I am but they would know him as a boxer. It’s a bit of a slap in the face, it’s a bit of you know, it’s a disgrace if you ask me."

"Yeah they fight, they actually fight. But are they fighters? No, they’re not. You’ve got to earn your way to where they are. The guy [Jake Paul] had his second professional fight and he’s fighting under the name of Mike Tyson"

"I don’t want to sound like a crybaby but it’s unfair man because you know, we work our whole lives to get where we are… They would have got paid way way more than of us fighters all put together. "

"That’s why I really like doing podcasts… I want to educate fans, I want to educate them that this isn’t real, this is fake what they’re doing. It’s a basketball player fighting another… I want to see the next generation of killers, you know that’s who I want to hear people talking about"

"When there’s guys out there who are up-and-coming who are legitimate are legitimate killers, who should be spoken about… I think the fans need to be educated"
