Coaches on the NFL Hot Seat Report

Kliff Kingsbury/Arizona Cardinals

Not sure anyone thought Kingsbury would survive the bye this week. But he is still employed, and they have a big game this week on Monday Night Football against New England in Foxborough. A must win for both teams this week. With a sputtering 24th ranked offense, Kingsbury will need to finish strong with the team already eliminated from a playoff berth. The extension Kliff and GM Steve Keim will be in focus as the owner will need to make a final decision on both.

Nathaniel Hackett/Denver Broncos

We may have seen two NFL teams hit rock bottom this week. Indianapolis allowed 33 points in the fourth quarter on national TV and now the Denver Broncos lose to Baltimore 10-9 (without Lamar Jackson) on the final drive of the game with a go-ahead TD on a designed run by backup Tyler Huntley. Just a week ago we saw Trevor Lawrence and Jacksonville rip apart the Baltimore defense and this week we saw Denver manage just 272 yards.

Russell Wilson continues to front some blame for the inadequacies on offense but the buck stops with Nathaniel Hackett. With Kansas City on deck this week, the 14-game losing streak against them appears to be well within reach. After a terrible season where it appears Russell Wilson will throw less touchdowns than he has bathrooms, Hackett could very well find himself moving from the NFL Hot Seat Report to the unemployment line.

Brandon Staley/Los Angeles Chargers

Staley and the Chargers moved to 6-6 on the season. Now typically this wouldn’t warrant a mention in this article, but they lost to Las Vegas. Raider have now won 3 straight and things are looking up for them for the first time this season. Staley can’t find any consistency with this team. Whether it be his decision making or the inability to get the most out of QB Justin Herbert.

The Chargers have three of their last four games and must essentially win out to have any chance to make the playoffs this season. A tall task with Miami and Tennessee in the next two weeks. Closing three games are very winnable so 4-1 at the minimum to have any chance. Staley is firmly on the hot seat especially with Sean Payton wanting to come back next season with an eye on coaching Justin Herbert.

Dennis Allen/New Orleans Saints

New Orleans lost to Tampa Bay on Monday Night Football last week 17-16 on another vintage game winning drive by Tom Brady (his 44th to be exact). The defense continues it stellar play, but the offense continues to sputter. They are not getting enough touches to Alvin Kamara and for some reason, they continue to keep Jameis Winston on the bench. As they are now 4-9 on the season, not sure what they are waiting for anymore.

They also lost Mark Ingram to a knee injury for the remainder of the season. Logic would say its time to put Jameis back under center because it’s clear that Andy Dalton isn’t the answer for this team long term. Also, it is relevant to point out that the Saints (currently) top 5 pick will go to Philadelphia this season. They do not draft until early 2nd round in the upcoming draft. So, with no ability to get a top college QB prospect this season, it’s even more imperative to get some more reps for Jameis Winston and make sure he is the QB for next season at a minimum. Allen suddenly finds himself close to the very top of the NFL Hot Seat Report.
