Week Two of summer break is here but there is no shortage of news with the NFL. Holdouts, contract news, suspensions, and possible legal trouble all in this week’s NFL Weekly Report.
Josh Jacobs Hold Out All Season?
The continued stare down between Josh Jacobs and the Raiders is not showing any signs of a resolution. Jacobs has yet to sign his franchise tender and is not showing any intention of signing it. If he signs the tender, he will be due approximately $10 Million for this season. It’s unclear what kind of contract he is looking for from Las Vegas but it appears he is holding out not only for himself but for others. The running back market, as we all know, has taken a beating lately due to the shortened life span of the position and the boom of the wide receiver. It’s the cycle of money as the pass catchers seem to be cashing in now instead of the running backs. Jacobs had the best year of his career by winning the rushing title with 1653 yards and 12 TDs last season.

NFL Gambling Suspensions
Another round of suspensions were dished out in the NFL last week. We did not see any huge names, but we did see a couple notable names get suspended. Those names were Colts DB Isaiah Rodgers Sr and Titans OT Nicholas Petit-Frere. Others included Colts reserve DE Rashod Berry and FA DT Demetrius Taylor. Rodgers, Berry, and Taylor will serve indefinite suspensions with possibility for reinstatement after the conclusion of the 2023 NFL Season. These three suspensions were more severe as they bet on actual NFL games. Petit-Frere will serve a six-game suspension for making a gambling bet at an NFL facility, which is prohibited. The NFL will need to continue training and discussion on this topic before they have a full-blown problem on their hand.
New England Locks Up More Starters
The Patriots have agreed to contract extensions of WR DaVante Parker and LB Ja’Whaun Bentley. Parkers deal is an incentive laden 3-year extension worth up to $33 Million ($14 Million Guaranteed) and defensive captain Bentley signed a 2-year extension worth approximately $19 Million with $9 Million guaranteed). Parker is expected to have a larger role with the offense this season after the loss of WR Jakobi Meyers. Bentley will continue to give them the leadership and production from the linebacker position. These contracts are cap friendly, so they do allow the Patriots to have some ability to make more moves on the roster as training camp looms. Expect the Patriots to still be players for WR DeAndre Hopkins and RB Dalvin Cook if they desire to be.
Jaguars Cam Robinson Suspended For PEDs
Offensive leader LT Cam Robinson has been suspended for the first four weeks of the 2023 season for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing drugs. This is huge hit to Jacksonville as Robinson is the blind side protector of franchise QB Trevor Lawrence. Robinson just signed a three-year extension for $52 Million in May 2022. He can attend training camp and get some reps in preseason but cannot return until Week Five of the 2023 season. He will forfeit nearly $900,000 per game in salary during his suspension.
Hassan Haskins Arrested
Some disturbing news out of Nashville this week involving backup Titans RB Hassan Haskins and his girlfriend. Haskins was arrested and charged with aggravated assault by strangulation and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Haskins girlfriend was also arrested and charged with aggravated assault by strangulation as well along with felony vandalism. This appears to be a domestic incident between the two of them with Haskins allegedly starting the argument and both Green and Haskins continuing to intensify it. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty in this country so the legal system will need to play out with this one. The Titans have only given the generic answer about an ongoing investigation and have not applied any punishment currently.
