The Houston Texans are a professional American football team based in Houston. They compete in the National Football League in the American Football Conference (AFC) South division.

The Texans were founded in 1999 and replaced the city’s previous NFL franchise, the Houston Oilers, who played from 1960 to 1996 before moving to Nashville and eventually becoming the Tennessee Titans.

They began as an expansion team in 2002. So, The Texans is the youngest franchise currently competing in the NFL.

An interesting fact about Houston Texans is that they are one of four franchises that have never appeared in a Super Bowl, alongside the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, and division rival Jacksonville Jaguars.

Houston businessmen began their efforts to create the franchise that would become the Texans in 1997. Later, the NFL awarded an expansion franchise to Houston in 1999.

The team’s first game came in 2002: a victory over the established cross-state power Dallas Cowboys.

The Texans finished their first year in the league at the bottom of the divisional standings.
