Montrezl Harrell injury update: What happened to 76ers big man, return timeline

76ers forward Montrezl Harrell sidelined with torn ACL and meniscus after offseason workouts.

Philadelphia 76ers forward Montrezl Harrell tore his anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus during offseason workouts this summer and is now out indefinitely, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported Wednesday.

Harrell underwent an MRI on Wednesday to evaluate recent swelling in his right knee, something that apparently came about after offseason workouts. That MRI revealed a torn ACL and meniscus. It’s unclear how Harrell injured his knee. While there is no timeline yet for his return, considering it is an ACL injury, Harrell will likely miss the upcoming season.

Harrell, who signed a one-year, $2.8 million deal with the 76ers last month, averaged 5.6 points and 2.8 rebounds last season in Philadelphia. Outside of his rookie season, those were the lowest averages of his career. The 29-year-old was selected first overall in the second round of the draft by the Houston Rockets in 2015. He spent time with the Los Angeles Clippers and Lakers, the Washington Wizards and the Charlotte Hornets before arriving in Philadelphia last season.
