Donald Trump does not hold back on Megan Rapinoe and USWNT, after penalty shootout loss to Sweden in Women’s World Cup

The US presidential candidate fired back at his country’s national women’s soccer team after they were knocked out of the World Cup in Melbourne.

Donald Trump led a chorus of comments on Sunday after the U.S. women"s national soccer team was eliminated from the World Cup. The team lost 5–4 to Sweden on penalties and was eliminated in the second round – the earliest elimination of a major tournament.

Trump"s former nemesis, Megan Rapinoe, missed a penalty, ending her last World Cup on a disappointing note — which didn"t come cheap for the former president.

Rapinoe, 38, will retire after the tournament with two World Cup titles and an Olympic gold medal. She is well known for her activism and support for left-wing causes as well as her sporting achievements, and Trump on Sunday singled her out, as usual, for special opprobrium.

“The ‘shocking and totally unexpected" loss of the U.S. Women"s Soccer Team to Sweden is totally emblematic of what is happening to our once great nation under the corrupt Joe Biden," Trump wrote on social media. “WAKING UP EQUALS FAILURE. Good shot Megan, the USA is going to hell!!!! MAGA."

Later, Rapinoe hit back at the comments, saying: “It"s pretty sad to dig into an old bag." I kept thinking, “Are you rooting for people to do bad things?" Yikes."

Benny Johnson, creative director at Turning Point USA, also mocked Rapinoe"s missed penalty. “Woke humiliation in U.S. women"s soccer," Johnson tweeted. “After winning two consecutive World Cups, the heavily favored Team USA was eliminated by Sweden in the [Round of 16]. Team USA"s downfall was caused by anti-American, anti-woman activist Megan Rapinoe"s embarrassing free kick [penalty] here."

Joey Mannarino, a conservative political strategist, said: “I root for the United States whenever they compete in sports, except in women"s soccer." The game was lost because Megan Rapinoe, the woke trash, missed a penalty kick. So Megan now bears responsibility for the USA"s defeat. I"m very happy to see that. Will wake up, will break! Megan Rapinoe will now retire with her head hanging in shame".
