Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, fresh off a record NFL deal, shared some key insights into preseason training, including how well the offence is stacking up.
In April of this year the Chargers picked up the fifth-year option and then signed their QB to a five-year extension worth a whopping $262.5 million. The former Oregon Duck is excited at the onset of the new season.
Herbert believes preseason has been a mixed bag, but with each passing day the Chargers are clicking offensively.
“There were ups and downs. There were a lot of things that we can correct, some good things we did, offensively," Herbert said.
The former NFL Rookie of the Year (2020) was honest in his assessment saying the team needed to be sharper but did admit the going was tough against such a tight defense.
"It"s tough going against that defense … they"re a really good defense but we"re doing everything we can to move the ball, we"ll be better at it," he admitted.
The striving for perfection is characteristic of the 2021 Pro Bowler as he looks to lead the Chargers into the playoffs, after a mediocre last hit out. The LA team had a 10-7 record and lost in the wild card round to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
With a new offensive coordinator in Kellen Moore, Herbert is looking to getting the details right, “I think, as long as you"re keeping your focus [on the] main thing and you"re detailed on all of those details, I think that"s the important thing. If you let it be a distraction, it can be a distraction" he cautioned.
Herbert will look to add another double-digit win season and earn another playoff tilt.
