Bashaud Breeland arrested: What happened to former Chiefs CB?

A former Super Bowl champion found himself in dire straits as Charlotte witnessed his arrest Tuesday, sparking allegations of possession of a stolen car, firearm and illicit substances.

Bashaud Breeland, a familiar name in NFL circles at 31, has fallen on the wrong side of the law. The police report describes finding Breeland in possession of a stolen Mercedes-Benz SUV, an impressive 62 grams of suspected illegal mushrooms, a load of more than five pounds of marijuana and a collection of eight firearms, including such notable entries as two AR-15s and two AK-47s. Breeland’s background includes his stint as cornerback for the Kansas City Chiefs during their triumphant Super Bowl run in 2020.

That story unfolded during a routine traffic stop at Circle K along North Graham Street adjacent to Interstate 277 when Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers came across the stash of drugs and stolen belongings.

Valued at more than $3,000, the accumulated firearms alone demonstrated the gravity of the situation. In addition, the marijuana had a price tag of $5,000, while the suspected illicit mushrooms weighed $2,000.

He was released after posting bail

Breeland’s stint behind bars began shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday, as indicated by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office website. However, surprisingly, he secured his release just two and a half hours later after posting bail in the amount of $30,000.

Mecklenburg County sheriff’s records show Breeland’s address in Charlotte, a place of importance to him. After spending eight seasons in the NFL, the Clemson alum expressed his desire to make amends with the Panthers after his three-year, $24 million contract with the Carolina Panthers in 2018 fell through due to a failed physical exam because of a foot infection.
