Bad news for Bengals fans as news from Cincinnati reveals star quarterback Joe Burrow is likely to miss preseason altogether after suffering a right calf strain towards the back end of July.
Bengals Head coach Zack Taylor was blunt when assessing the return of the former number one draft pick.
"The timeline [Burrow’s return] is several weeks from when I said several weeks," he said.
The is not great news with Burrow in a race to be ready for week 1.
The Heisman trophy winning QB was scrambling out of the pocket towards the end of a con-contact session when he pulled up injured.
With Taylor calling on the likes of Trevor Sieman and Jake Browning, he also has recently recruited Reid Sinnet, who recently played for the San Antonio Brahmas in the XFL.
The trio may be decent signal-callers, but they are not Burrow, with ‘Joe Cool’ having led to Bengals to five post season wins, which is the same number of victories in the franchise history.
Despite Burrow’s unquestionable skills, teammate wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase cautioned against an early, rushed return, saying that Burrow should not see the field in preseason and even week 1 to properly heal.
Taylor and Chase know they need a fully fit Burrow to help them make another Superbowl run.
