The 2023 NFL Draft’s fourth pick by Indianapolis Colts, Anthony Richardson will start the preseason opener on Saturday against the Buffalo Bills. The quarterback is excited to make his NFL debut.
Richardson is a gifted quarterback but completed just 53.8% of his throws as Florida’s starter in his lone season.
Head coach Shane Steichen said, “Want to just see where he’s at,”.
“Get him out there — and he’s been doing a nice job — get him out there with the guys and go from there.”
Anthony Richardson has reportedly been “really impressive” according to Colts QB Gardner Minshew.
Richardson’s ability to “process fast” has reportedly stood out, despite that being one of his concerns heading into the NFL Draft.

Throughout training camp, the quarterback has been competing with veteran Gardner Minshew for the starting role. The training camp reviews of the rookie have been positive, and he feels confident as well.
“The first NFL experience, I’m excited for it,” Richardson said. “Same rodeo, I just get to play ball again. I knew I was going to play regardless, so I wasn’t really stressing whether I was going to start or not. I was going to get my reps.”
The rookie has shown promising skills and has amassed praise from his teammates consistently. His rushing ability and athleticism sets him apart. The fans on Saturday will see him in action from the Colts side.
“It lets me know where I’m at, so I’m definitely excited to go against a different opponent instead of going against (linebackers) Zaire (Franklin) and Shaq Leonard every single day.
“I’m excited to get to play football again against a new opponent, and we’ll see what happens.”
On Richardson’s ability to beat defences, coach Steichen said, “That’s one of his powers that makes him a dynamic player,”
“(We’re) obviously being safe. He has a natural feel, too — watching his college tape — of getting down and being smart. It will be good to see him in live action on Saturday.”
The Colts will play against the Bills at 1 p.m. ET Saturday on CBS.
