The Texans will be looking to their 2023 No.2 overall draft pick CJ Stroud to add some spark in their offensive play, and the former Heisman trophy finalist didn’t exactly start preseason on a solid note.
Texans head coach Demeco Ryans declared himself happy with CJ’s latest runout commenting, despite throwing an interception. “I thought it was good for CJ to get some live reps,” he said. “I thought he moved around well.”
Ryans, a former Texans draft pick in 2006, sees potential in Stroud, but admits there is work to be done.
“With the interception, I think (Jalen) Mills made a really nice play … We probably were a bit late there with the ball, and it was a learning lesson, and that’s why we do preseason,” he concluded.
The Texans are only 23 years old as a franchise that has yet to taste an away playoff win, or even reach a Superbowl, but they have been competitive from 2015 onwards.
The upswing of a player of the athletic ability of Stroud is that Ryans has some time to work on the former Ohio State QB. He was named the starting QBs as a red-shirt freshman and his career has been on an upward trajectory ever since.
