For about a week, the Cowboys running back, Tony Pollard, felt assured he was himself again for the first time since he fractured his left fibula during a January playoff loss.
The systems check with a few padded practices in training camp made him feel fast and explosive.
Neither Pollard nor his head coach Mike McCarthy had any doubt. On Thursday, McCarthy said, “He’s put his foot in the ground on a number of runs, and I definitely think he’s back.”
The Cowboys won’t have the definitive Pollard answer in Saturday’s exhibition opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He, along with Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons, will stand on the sideline and watch rookies and reserves compete, where Rico Dowdle, Malik Davis, and Deuce Vaughn are jostling this summer behind Pollard for opportunities.
Dowdle and Davis are the favorites as the No.2 back behind Pollard.
“It’s a regular season for them, They’ve got to treat it like it’s regular season or even a playoff game. It’s do or die,” said Pollard.
