Per CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson, the Baltimore Ravens have made former No. 1 overall pick and pending free agent, Jadeveon Clowney a contract offer. Despite receiving an offer from the Ravens, Clowney decided to meet with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Meanwhile, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport suggests there is no guarantee that Clowney receives an offer from the Jaguars.
Clowney has spent the last two seasons with the Cleveland Browns playing alongside All-Pro defensive end, Myles Garrett.
Well, playing with such a dominant player on the other side of the defensive line enabled Clowney to amass 9.0 sacks in his first season with the Browns.
However, injuries played a role in his struggles during his second year in Cleveland, as has been the story throughout his career. He was only able to record two sacks in 12 games last season due to various injuries.
A former three-time Pro Bowler who has shown why he was the No. 1 overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft when he can stay healthy, Clowney has also expressed interest in returning to the team that drafted him in 2013, the Houston Texans.
The Jaguars would be an interesting landing spot for Clowney. They are a young team that is on the rise, led by franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence. However, The Jags didn’t do much to bolster their pass-rushing unit this offseason while losing Arden Key in free agency.
Clowney is one of the best available remaining free agents. He could prove to be a big addition to any team he decides to sign with, so it will be interesting to see if anyone other than the Ravens make him an offer.
