Jonathan Taylor contract update: Running Back to return to training camp, but problems remain

With a pretty serious ankle injury, there are legitimate concerns over star Running Back Jonathan Taylor’s immediate future at the Indianapolis Colts.

Taylor has not returned to camp after the injury and has chosen to rehabilitate at an out-of-state facility.

But then, it is obvious that the Colts medical staff want to keep a close eye on the RB, especially as he is still officially on the “PUP” list and must be cleared before he can be activated.

But there is more than meets the ‘ankle’ in this saga with Taylor’s contract ending after the season.

Taylor requested to be traded, before he became a free agent, which has been ostensibly ruled out by the team.

The 2021 rushing leader in the NFL is holding out hope for a trade despite Colts owner Jim Irsay publicly stating that this request will be denied.

Well, Taylor struggled for the better part of 2022 with a high ankle sprain and limped off in week 15, ending his season on a sour note.

Meanwhile, Coach Shane Steichen believes he will return to camp shortly: “He should be back this week; do I know the exact date he will be back? No, but he should be back,” he curtly said.

The 24-year-old has been sensational since joining the NFL, ranking second in rushing touchdowns over the period, and fourth in yards (3,841) since entering the league three years ago.

With Taylor swiftly wanting to move out of the Colts, and them not backing down, Will he ‘rush’ out of Indie or will he be forced to stay? Although, the immediate concern is for his ankle, and how that may hurt his career in the future and also the Colts season.
