Trey Lance watch: 49ers QB fails to impress again in struggle against Raiders

The San Francisco 49ers put plenty of faith and first round picks on the line when they snapped up Trey Lance in 2021 as the third overall pick.

The Miami Dolphins traded the third overall Lance (2021 draft) with the 49ers, who gave up their first-round picks for 2021, 2022 and 2023.

The North Dakota State star struggled in the 49ers preseason joust with the Raiders on Sunday. They say bad things come in three and this was the case for Lance.

Not only did his team lose 34-7 in a whooping, but he looked uncomfortable in the pocket all game (despite 10-for-15 pass rate). Those numbers are decent, but the eyes does not lie.

The third overall pick, who is a third year NFL QB went for three-for three on Sunday, with all three-and-out drives and suffering three sacks in the process.

He fumbled his lines early on but picked up a head of steam later in the game, with a first down on the first play of a drive, caught by WR Ronnie Bell. There followed a deuce of first downs, and a craft pass to Willie Snead.

Lance then threw a TD pass to TE Ross Dwelley (after a lucky bounce off an intercepted pass-and-drop by the Raiders).

If Lance does not significantly improve his coolness and composer, this could be his last season in the 49ers outfit.
