Former Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens running back, Alex Collins, tragically passed away on Sunday night.

Both teams took to social media on Monday to confirm the news and pay their respects to Collins and his family.

Collins’ family also released a statement through the Seahawks.

Only 28 years old, Collins’ death happened as a result of a motorcycle accident in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. He hit the rear passenger side of an SUV and the impact forced him to enter the rear passenger side window of the car he struck, where he was soon found dead at the scene.

Known for being a dedicated yet free-spirited, loving, and bubbly personality, Collins was able to light up any room with his presence. “All who truly know him can attest to his drive, determination, and larger-than-life personality,” as stated by the Collins family.

Collins was picked by the Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft after putting up a monster season in his junior year with the Arkansas Razorbacks. In 2015, he ran for nearly 1,600 yards and scored 20 touchdowns while averaging 5.8 yards per carry.

After his first NFL season with the Seahawks, Collins was waived,  before ultimately landing with the Ravens in 2017.

He started in 12 games for the Ravens in 2017 en-route to the best season of his NFL career, rushing for 973 yards and six touchdowns.

Once his time in Baltimore came to an end after the 2018 season, Collins found himself back with the Seahawks, where he ended his NFL career. Through five NFL seasons, Collins amassed 1,997 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns.

Most recently, Collins spent time in the USFL this year, with the Memphis Showboats. However, his season was ultimately cut short due to an injury that required him to go on the injured reserve list in May.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Collins family through these difficult times.
