Former Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook has agreed to a 1-year, $8.6 million deal with the New York Jets and will be seen playing alongside veteran Aaron Rodgers.
Cook was selected, by the Vikings, in the second round of the 2017 draft, and since then, he has spent his entire career with them.
After entering the league Cook racked up 5,993 rushing yards and 47 touchdowns while boasting a healthy 4.7 yards per carry.
He has attempted rushing for at least 1,000 yards each year and also made it to the Pro Bowl for the past four seasons.
After failing to get a trade partner for him, the Vikings released Cook in June.
Cook led the Vikings to a playoff berth for the first time since the 2019 season by running 1,173 yards with eight touchdowns the last season.
Cook signed a five-year, $63 million contract extension with the team in 2020 and received only a guaranteed $2 million of his salary in 2023, whereas on the contrary he would’ve received $14.1 million against the cap if he had remained on the roster.
Though Cook got linked to all four AFC East teams since his release, he always desired to play for his hometown, the Miami Dolphins.
But then, Cook will now join the Jets and team up with the newly acquired quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Meanwhile, Breece Hall, the Jets’s Running Back, is recovering from an ACL injury sustained late last season, but it’s unclear if he is ready to go for Week 1.
With 1173 yards, 69.0 Y/G, 4.4 YPC, 8 touchdowns, and 81 long throws in the 2022-2023 season, Cook is said to be a solid addition to the Jets lineup, who have been eyeing him since acquiring Rodgers who is said to serve as a much-needed veteran presence for the Jets’ ground game.
Well, with this deal, the Jets would now be aiming to make the playoffs for the first time since 2010.
Furthermore, the Jets will be the first team in NFL history to add a quarterback and a running back in the same offseason after the duo reached the Pro Bowl in four of the past five seasons.
The Jets will open their season on Sept. 11 against the Buffalo Bills after going 7-10 last season under Coach Robert Saleh.
