The 76-ers training camp is more like an episode of Days of Our Lives than an actual preseason with James Harden accusing President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey of being a ‘liar’.
Harden is desperate to leave the Philadelphia 76er’s and has not reported back to the training camp.
This comes after Morey allegedly derailed transfer talks with the Clippers with a valuation considerably higher than market value for Harden.
“Daryl Morey is a liar and I’ll never be part of an organization that he’s a part of, “an irate Harden said at an Adidas launch in China on Monday.
“Let me say that again, Daryl Morey is a liar,” he re-iterated.
Strong words ahead of the season from the 10-x NBA All-Star.
Harden has stepped some way with Morey with the two starting off their relationship at the Rockets in 2018. But Harden wanted to move to the Nets, and eventually did, before eventually following Morey to the 76ers.
But is appears the romance is over, and Morey stands to lose out on a free agent status for next season, if he stays away for the mandatory 30-day ceiling the NBK enforces.
This is hardly new territory for Morey, with Chris Paul an unhappy camper last June, when he was traded from the Rockets to the Wizards, despite Morey telling him a few days earlier that he was not being traded.
Meanwhile, the Philly team also had their share of transfer dodginess when Ben Simmons demanded a trade in preseason 2021. He never played for the Sixers after that, and was eventually traded for, ironically, Harden.
Well, Harden is adamant, Morey is determined, and the only real losers so far are the 76ers, who are having a less than happy preseason.
