Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes may have lost a notable offensive weapon as wide receiver Justyn Ross was carted off the field with a leg injury during practice this week. Head coach Andy Reid confirmed that Ross injured his leg but didn’t provide any additional details for the time being.

Ross was a college standout at the University of Clemson but went undrafted in 2022 due to medical concerns. He is a 6-foot-4 receiver with an impressive athletic profile who was once viewed as a potential first-round NFL draft pick. He caught 46 passes for 1,000 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in his freshman season with the Tigers and followed it up with 66 receptions, 865 yards, and eight touchdowns in his sophomore season.

Unfortunately, Ross was forced to sit out the season in 2020 due to neck and spinal issues. It was revealed that Ross was born with a condition called Klippel-Feil syndrome, an ailment that “calls for the avoidance of physical activities…” as stated by The Spun by Sports Illustrated.

After being granted redshirt eligibility, he played 10 games in the 2021 season before declaring for the 2022 NFL Draft. Ross went undrafted and later signed with the Chiefs as a free agent in 2022, but missed the entire season due to a foot injury.

This offseason, reports out of training camp have continuously praised Ross and the connection he seems to be developing with Mahomes. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport said that the injury “does not appear to be serious…” Chiefs’ fans can breathe a sigh of relief as they wait to hear more news.
