After spending the past three seasons with Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady, Mike Evans is eager to find out who his next signal caller will be.
As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers try to figure out what life after Tom Brady will look like, Evans has become fed up.
NFL veteran Baker Mayfield and Buccaneers 2021 second-round draft pick Kyle Trask have been competing in training camp to be the team’s new starting quarterback, and the uncertainty seems to be weighing heavily on the Pro Bowl wide receiver.
“We want to know who the starter’s going to be you, you know, soon,” said Evans. Evans is the third-longest-tenured player on the team as well as a team captain, so it should not be taken lightly when he speaks out.
However, Evans isn’t just selfishly expressing his growing impatience. He wants the team to have as much time as possible to work with the starting quarterback leading up to the start of the regular season and allow said quarterback to “take control of the offense.”
Evans is a four-time Pro Bowler and one-time Super Bowl champion. He has recorded at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of the first nine seasons of his career, which is an NFL record for most consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons to begin an NFL career.
It has been reported that Baker Mayfield seems to have the inside track to being the Bucs next starting quarterback. The Bucs travel to Minnesota to face the Vikings in Week 1 of the regular season.
