Preseason is always a worrying time for NFL coaches, and training matches are often the scene of serious injuries.
The Eagles medical team was on full alert, particularly with what looked like serious neck injuries in their preseason game against the Cleveland Browns last night.
Receiver Tyrie Cleveland and rookie defensive lineman Moro Ojomo both suffered what looked like serious injuries in two separate incidents.
Coach Nick Sirianni said after the training, “I haven’t talked to the doctors yet, but it sounds like they’re moving around.”
The Eagles team has since reported that both players have feeling in their extremities. But it is worrying for players, coaches, and fans alike.
Whether the injuries will be a lot more serious is not known yet.
The Eagles suffered four further injury concerns in the bruising encounter with the Browns, with the ankle injury sustained by cornerback Zech McPhearson the most concerning of the quartet.
Rookie first round pick Nolan Smith and Receiver Olamide Zaccheaus both had shoulder problems, while offensive lineman Josh Andrews left with an ankle injury at the halftime break and did not return to play.
But the most serious injuries were those suffered by Cleveland and Ojomo, with QB Marcus Mariota quoted as saying, “Your heart goes out to them first and foremost, and you just think about your teammate. We play a game and it’s a blessing to play a game but when these situations get like that, it is scary.”
