Former ESPN Reporter Sage Steele recently appeared on SiriusXM’s The Megyn Kelly Show to discuss her experiences with ESPN.
Steele sued ESPN for retaliating against her and the comments she made regarding the COVID vaccine among other political/social topics.
In her claim, Steele alleges that ESPN said her job was in jeopardy if she didn"t comply with the company. So much so to the point that she was "scared" to work at ESPN following her suspension in 2021.
ESPN decided to suspend Steele in October 2021, after she made some controversial comments on former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler’s podcast.
After 16 years with the company, Steele and ESPN mutually agreed to part ways after successfully settling her case against them to "exercise my [her] first amendment rights more freely."
"I refuse to be quiet anymore," said Steele. She made it very clear that she will no longer be biting her tongue. "I’m allowed to feel the way I feel. When you try to silence me, I’m done."
Speaking very candidly, Steele just wanted "consistency." Several of her colleagues have gone on air or posted on social media to discuss things "that have nothing to do with sports that are political…" She felt as though she was being held to a different standard than her peers at ESPN.
Now that the lawsuit has been settled and Steele is no longer a part of ESPN, Steele said she is "excited for my next chapter."
