Team USA recently announced the first six members of the Ryder Cup US Team, Scottie Scheffler, Max Homa, Patrick Cantlay, Brian Harman, Wyndham Clark, and Xander Schauffele all automatically qualified as a result of Viktor Hovland’s BMW Championship victory.
There were several big-name players who missed the cut, one being LIV Golf member Brooks Koepka.
Koepka controversially left the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf, a tour that is backed and funded by the Saudi government. This decision to join LIV Golf has strained some of the relationships Koepka has formed with fans and fellow professional golfers.
So much so to the point that US Ryder Cup team captain Zach Johnson will have a difficult decision to make when it comes to Koepka’s place on Team USA.
One person who has not taken very kindly to the idea of Koepka representing USA in the Ryder Cup despite his decision to leave the PGA Tour is former golfer, Brandel Chamblee.
“Koepka being at the Ryder Cup, regardless of what he does, will not be about whether it will be great for the United States or the Ryder Cup,” said Chamblee.
Chamblee is implying that the decision to include Koepka in the Ryder Cup would be a distraction that could potentially do more harm than good.
“It will be non-stop tweets from bots and everyone that supports LIV about how great this is for LIV, more than about being about the Ryder Cup…”
Despite Koepka being one of the best American golfers in the world, his pending status for the 2023 Ryder Cup bears watching.
