Tampa Bay Ray’s shortstop Wander Franco will probably not be part of the team’s game against the Rockies at the Tropicana field mid-week.
The Rays are fresh off a double-header win over the Angels and will be looking to put further distance between Franco and the allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a minor, which came to light on social media recently.
Wander is expected to hear the news later today on whether he will be placed on administrative leave or an extension of his stay on the restricted list.
The Rays are making a run to top the AL East with a 75-51 record, to the leaders the Orioles (77-47).
Franco is facing a double whammy of investigations, one by the MLB and one by the Dominican authorities, and it is deemed likely that with ongoing investigations and no decisions imminent, he could be sidelined for a longer period.
“We support any steps taken by the league to better understand the situation. Out of respect for all parties involved, we have no further comments at this time,” the Rays said in a statement.
It is reported he will still receive his $2 million a year as part of his $182 11-year deal.
Franco has hired prominent attorney Jay Reisinger, out of Pittsburgh.
“El Patron”, made his MLB debut in 2021, and was an All-Star in 2023.
