Myles Garrett contract update: Browns restructure deal, now have most cap room in NFL

The Browns have been smart in the preseason, this time restructuring long-serving defensive edge-rusher Myles Garrett’s contract to assist their base salary cap.

The Cleveland team now have more than $35 million in the ‘salary cap’ bank.

Garrett arrived in 2017 and is a four-time Pro Bowler and his restructured deal, along with one for left guard Joe Bitonio has freed up cap management space.

The former Texas A&M star signed a $125 million extension in 2020, with 100 million of that guaranteed.

With a career 263 tackles, 13 forced fumbles and 74.5 sacks the Browns will want to keep their star defensive end happy, while the accountants peck away at the Cleveland books, ensuring a better cap.

To mix catchphrases with disregard allow us this small indulgence: a feather in the cap is worth two in the bush.

The Browns created a cap space windfall of $12.868 million in 2023.

Smart plays off the field will hopefully lead to better ones on it, with the Browns finishing last in the AFC North in their previous season, with a record of 7-10. They take on the Bengals in their season opener.
