Patrick Cantlay has officially clinched a spot on his second straight US Team ahead of the 2023 Ryder Cup. US Team captain Zach Johnson couldn’t contain his enthusiasm when he heard the news.
“I know how badly he wants to win and I am excited to have him on our United States Team,” said Johnson.
Cantlay earned his spot on the team by being one of the most consistent players on Tour throughout the years. He is currently ranked fourth in the World Golf Ranking and is a constant fixture inside the top 10 of the ranks.
He shined on this stage for the US Team back in 2021. Cantlay defeated Shane Lowry, playing a huge role in Team USA’s 19-9 Ryder Cup victory at the time. It was a bit of a coming-out party for Cantlay, who was always expected to be a great golfer following his college days playing for the UCLA Bruins golf team.
A Ryder Cup hero, Cantlay brings a well-rounded game to a US Team looking to win the Ryder Cup on foreign soil for the first time since 1993.
The European team will be featuring some talented players such as Viktor Hovland, Rory Mcllroy, and John Rahm. Hovland just put on one of the most impressive performances in recent memory by coming back to defeat Scottie Scheffler at the BMW Championship.
The Ryder Cup is set to take place in Rome, Italy, starting on Sept. 29 and concluding on Oct. 1.
