In a recent candid interview with Gilbert Arenas on Gil"s Arena podcast, Golden State Warriors" superstar Stephen Curry opened up about his future in the NBA, revealing that retirement might be closer on the horizon than previously thought.
"I think I never imagined myself being the 40-plus dude like trying to hold on for dear life, but who knows what my body will look or feel like at that point.
Curry also stated that his call won"t solely hinge on his physical condition.
The 4× NBA champion has three years remaining on his current deal, including the upcoming season. While this provides a sense of security and time to reflect, Curry seems to be keeping his options open.
“So I got three years left in my deal, including this year, so at least that," he stated, hinting that his commitment extends to fulfilling his current contract. “And then [I"ll] kind of figure it out from there."
On the podcast, Curry also opened up about the potential addition of Chris Paul to the Warriors" roster who was traded by the Wizards in July.
"He connects a lot of lineups for us, in terms of being able to help some of the young guys figure out what it means to play winning basketball and be in the right spots," Curry said.
Stephen Curry is set to enter his fifteenth chapter with Golden State Warriors navigating the aftermath of a roller-coaster season.
“Three core guys trying to keep proving people wrong, and we still have what it takes," Curry said. “We"re the hunter now, not the hunted, and we"re trying to embrace that energy.
“I think the biggest thing is the notion that you always want to be the team that everyone picks, that"s a good spot to be in.
But if you"re in that group of six to eight teams that legitimately has a shot, in terms of the experience, the cohesiveness, the sense of identity of how you play the game.
If you"re in that conversation, you hope for health, you hope for people to continue to play at the level they need to, then you get to the playoffs, and it"s just a roll of the dice to see what happens.
“That"s all we want, is just a chance, and I think we got that this year."
Clearly, the Warriors are gearing up for a fierce comeback after a challenging previous season.
