Friday marked a historic day for Ohtani. Returning to his designated hitter role, he launched two towering home runs, shortly after announcing his participation in the T-Mobile Home Run Derby.
This feat placed him within an elite group, as it had been a century since a player achieved the remarkable feat of hitting five homers and securing a win within a week.
The momentum continued on Saturday when Ohtani hammered yet another homer, the following day, Sunday, June 20, he solidified his dominance with another impressive home run, earning him his third AL Player of the Week award.
Ohtani’s ability to maintain a blistering pace of 60 homers while striking out a significant number of batters as a pitcher is truly historic. His selection to the All-Star Game both as a pitcher and a batter speaks volumes about his unique abilities. Furthermore, the anticipation of witnessing him pull double duty in the Home Run Derby only adds to the excitement surrounding this remarkable athlete.
In 2017, an international scouting director captivated the baseball world with a statement that resonated among both fans and experts alike. He remarked, “I’ve been doing this 26 years, seen as many players as anybody, but I’ve never seen a skill set like this.”
Young kids who are passionate about baseball have someone to look up to and idolize in Ohtani.
It is evident in the admiration expressed by young players at the Little League World Series. When asked about their favorite superhero, one player from Japan chose Ohtani.
