“Potential to be No.1 in NFL” Browns RB Nick Chubb confident of Deshaun Watson-led offense

Cleveland Browns running back has been the driving force of the team’s offense since they selected him in the 2018 NFL Draft. Now, he enters the 2023 season with arguably the best quarterback of his career and he’s confident in what that could mean for the Browns offensive unit as a whole.

“I think there’s that potential to be one of the best in the NFL,” Chubb stated about the Browns offense.

Quarterback Deshaun Watson is only a few years removed from a 5,000 scrimmage-yard season with the Houston Texans. Since that remarkable 2020 season, Watson has found himself making headlines for the wrong reasons.

Before arriving in Cleveland, Watson had asked the Houston Texans to trade him in January of 2021. Since March 2021, 26 different women have come forward and filed civil lawsuits against Watson for sexual misconduct. This created a long waiting game as teams waited for the dust to settle before the Browns finally traded for him.

Not too long after the trade, Watson was forced to serve an 11-game in his first year with the team. This suspension made it difficult for Watson to get acclimated with his new team last year, but now he has a full offseason to get in a rhythm with his teammates.

The Browns mortgaged their future to acquire Watson amid his legal troubles. They’re betting on him returning to the perennial Pro Bowl quarterback he once was before the lawsuits. Watson has resolved a majority of the cases, with only two remaining.

With Watson’s past mostly in the rearview mirror, Chubb believes the Browns offense could be in store for a big season. “Whatever it takes, I’m excited for it,” Chubb said.
